A scammer called at the house today
I stood my ground and called “go away”
He appeared at the window and grinned to say
He had tarmac to sell in black and gray
My legs turned to jelly, I started to flap
And then shut the curtains with a fumbled slap
His toothy grin lurched through a gap
He peered through the window and started to tap
Seeing my phone, I dialed the cops
Our CPSO is really the tops
He said he was busy, caught on the hop
But he promised to pull out all the stops
I turned to the camera and clicked on a pic
I even got his van, scoring a tick
The PCSO had arrived at a lick
And soon this grinner would be given the flick
I peeped through the curtain and had a good look
At the words being had with the grinning crook
A long deep breath through clenched teeth I took
I’m not as green as I cabbage look
So if a stranger calls, don’t go into shock
Just take a moment and pause to take stock
If no appointment is made and a caller comes ad hoc
Just be careful – not a green old crock
With Christmas plans being made, we should all be on our guard for scam cold callers and phone scammers – take your time and ask yourself “Is this genuine?”
